Chester Thornless Blackberry

Product Description

Chester Thornless Blackberry - Rubus spp.

Best for jams, jellies, and baked goods.
Grows up to 4-5' tall x 3-4' wide
Zone 5

The hardiest thornless variety, it produces large berries that ripen in mid-summer and are very sweet and juicy. Self-pollinating. No pollinator is required however planting with other blackberry varieties can increase crop size.

Plant in full sun for optimal berry production. Water regularly the first year, especially in hot, dry weather. Blackberries thrive in well-drained, acidic soil. Use of soil ammendments and an acidic fertilizer is recommended. Regular spraying to control pests and disease is recommended. (For specific spray applications see product label).

For soil ammending we recommend Mahoney’s Compost Planting Mix, Coast of Maine Penobscot Blend, and Happy Frog Soil Conditioner. For fertilizer we recommend using Espoma Berry-tone or Espoma Holly-tone. For insect and disease control we recommend Bonide Citrus, Fruit, & Nut - Orchard Spray and Bonide Captain Jack’s Deadbug Brew.
