New & Existing garden beds For new beds, sandy, compacted or clay soil, work in 2” to 3” of Natural & Organic Planting Soil for Roses & Flowers into the top 4” to 6“ of existing soil before planting. To maintain healthy permanent beds, apply a 2” to 3” layer of our Natural & Organic Planting Soil every year around your existing roses and flowers. This is best done in the spring before new foliage emerges and in the middle of the growing-season to refresh beds.

Planting holes When planting roses, dig a hole twice as deep and twice as wide as the root ball. Set the root ball down in the hole and keep the stem the same height as it was in the pot. Back fill with equal parts native soil and our Natural & Organic Planting Soil for Roses & Flowers. Do not pack the soil down around the plant, as this eliminates valuable airspace for the roots. Rather, water the plant in to settle the soil, adding more if needed. Water thoroughly and regularly until the plant has established itself.
